Interstate 10 West

I have to travel Interstate 10 from New Orleans to Katy Texas in a few months. The last time I took it the Interstate was so bad it beat up my travel trailer. Does anyone have anything to add to this? Has it been repaired in the last year? I really don't want to take State190 across.

I-10 is fairly good until you get to Lake Charles, where you will likely run into construction depending on your timing, at the moment it is mostly clear, but a new stretch of construction will be starting in a couple of weeks. Once you get into Texas expect about 15-20 miles with intermittent concrete K rails on both sides with narrowed lanes just west of Beaumont.

We just came through there last week. La roads were fine as were the Texas roads to San Antonio with the exception of the first 15 or 20 mile into Texas which were somewhat rough.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it if that's the only way you're going. It is what it is.

It's 380 mi. via I-10 and if you took 190/12 it's 390 miles.

If you are looking at alternatives to go north of I-10 don't take LA26 as they just started a major repaving project on it this week.

Might be too late but what I've been doing for some years is 404 at Anthony to some New Mexico numbered road which turns into a Texas Farm to Market which runs into 54 which intersects 375. Beats the grades going over the Franklin Mountains which aren't really a problem but also the traffic on that section of 375.

Then its a little farther but you can get off on 62 east toward Guadalupe Mt NP and then cut south where you want - Sierra Blanca, Van Horn. I got in the habit of doing that when 375 was all done but the 10/375 junction and going east seems like I always got on the wrong ramp. Now it just helps me beat that much traffic.
