Hi, I will be traveling from California to south eastern Oklahoma about the middle of September. I haven't traveled this route in the past four or five years, and need information on condition of road, major detours, construction zones etc. Also need places to overnight for a few hours of sleep. Not intrested in RV resorts, just safe places for a little shut eye. I will be traveling with a semi-invalid sister in law, and plan on two nights on the road.
Any info on road conditions, and places for rest would be appreciated. I will be traveling in a class A gas with toad.

I quite often use the following website

Fuel stops

to locate fueling stops along my route ... perhaps you can locate places where you could grab a couple of hours of shut eye from there ...

You can also buy the Rand McNally Atlas at WalMart ... it has all of the stores listed inside the front and back covers ...

I have not travelled I-40 recently so can't help with conditions ... but I think that most states have websites showing where major construction projects are currently underway

Not bad traveling until you get east of OK City. That part of I-40 will shake your dentures out. Go slow and don't damage your coach.
