I don't overnight in rest areas because I can't sleep next to idling diesels. The low frequency vibrations keep me awake regardless of what I do to mask the noise. I'm particularly sensitive though.

We only stay at walmarts and once we stayed at a rests area. Not so good. to much noise of the coming and going of big rigs. Hghway noise too. All I need is a fast sleep. In at 6 pm and out at 7 am.

Our take on rest areas is that mostly trucks stay there, if allowed, and they need the rest. We could always find other places for an overnight.

You are not alone. Ain't nuff white noise to cover up the diesel drone.

We are not in a hurry. A good quiet campground for us, and a good fresh start about 9AM.
We are also sensitive to overnight door knocking. (Shivers)
