Heading home from Portland to Ohio. How is I90 as far as road quality? Is I 80 better? Please rank I90, I80' and I 70. Thanks for help. Jack

I was shopping for tires and found this on the Les Schawb website. It won't answer your specific questions about road quality but it has many road cameras.

I-70 is a freeway and I-80 & I-90 have some tolls if that matters to you.

What a great site. Thank you. We are in Oregon and leaving Monday. Tolls are not my issue. Want to go back to Ohio with my wheels on. Don't want to have a road like I75 in southern Michigan. Jack

One other issue with 80 & 90. They take you thru IL just South of Chicago and thru Gary IN. VERY heavy truck traffic and some minor rough spots. trucks = rough roads

Each state has its' own telephone Hot Line for current road conditions not to mention AAA. You can also just Google: I-90 Road Conditions (state). If a stretch of road becomes rough or bumpy, SLOW DOWN. If it becomes too congested (work commuters, accident, construction, etc) pull over relax and make a sandwich. It's the journey, not the destination. Hell, Pioneers crossed the United States in covered wagons without shock absorbers, air suspension, pneumatic tires, air conditioning or radio.

Not sure what part of our fair state (OH) you're heading to, but I'd suggest I-84 to Salt Lake City, then I-80 to Moline, IA, then SE on I-74 to Indianapolis and I-70. It avoids Greater Chicago and tollroads across IL, IN, and OH.

This time of year I would worry more about a Spring blizzard sweeping across your route than the condition of the roadbed. I think you will find some rough segments regardless of what route you follow because winter causes roadway breakup on every one of the roads you will be travelling.

Weather.com has a feature of predicting weather on any segment of the interstates.

I agree with BFlinns suggested route

I highly recommend avoiding the Chicago area if you can. Roads are very rough and the traffic is heavy. Toll booths about every 10 miles and tolls were high. Seems like you just get the truck & trailer back up to speed and it's time to stop again.

across Montana
we took 90 across Montana last year and it was a good road all the way. A little construction at the Idaho border but no traffic
