Is California Highway 1 getting loved to death?

Interesting article in yesterday's local Tribune. We live in San Luis Obispo, at the southern end of that stretch of 1 up to Big Sur and Monterey.

Interesting article - My wife and I toured California via Highway 1 in the 70's. Incredibly beautiful coastline with so many great towns and hamlets to stop/visit along the way. Going back up highway 1, from Eureka to Crescent City (Redwood NP), late next May. Can some > percent of tourist spending be directed back to improvements in the high traffic areas? What do you think of the ideas being voiced at the CalTrans public meetings? Thanks for sharing!

That one slide area is only one of about 5-7 other sizable construction zones on Hwy 1 between SLO and Monterey. We drove it in late Aug going from Socal to Santa Cruz and though we would take the Scenic Route. Mostly pretty but the delays and lane closures were so often it took about three hours longer than it should have or had we stayed on 101 North.
