Planning a trip early summer 2016. The plan is to come up the 5 to Jasper and then down to Banff on 93. I noticed my trip planning software reroutes me around 93 when the profile is set to RV but not when set to car. Is 93 do-able in a class A motorhome? Any recommendations\experiences appreciated.

We just did this trip in August from Big Bear up the 15 to Missoula then to Banff and Jasper. 93. is a good rolling straight road with one problem. They need to grind it to be flat and level. I was told it was the mountains pushing on it. Lots of mountains here and on the way and no road like that. So we just slowed down to 45 and enjoyed the view. You can also air down your tires to the minimum for your weight then air up when you get to Jasper.

It's like the 99 used to be between the grapevine and Bako in the 90's. Thump thump thump....

If you do the above you will love the road and the view, lots of turnouts to let cars by who want to go faster.

Make sure you have winter clothing with you. We did Banff July 2014 and the next morning it was 40 F when we woke up.

Thanks for the quick reply's. Good news on the road because it's a long ways out of the way to go around. We always carry clothing for any weather. Planning late May\early June so we expect it will be cool.

Without a doubt Gordon!... Hard to imagine till you see it with your own eye's

Rockie's on both sides of the road.........
Be sure to stop at the Columbia Ice Fields and take the tour!
The last photo is take from the lodge, looking at the Athabasca Glacier, be sure to go up on it, a "Snow Coach" is quite fun to ride in!

One of us is partially confused and since I have taken this trip twice, one in 2012 and again in 2015 I doubt that it is me.

There are only two routes that take you to Jasper, the 93 which part of it is called The Ice-field Highway and the Yellowhead 16 Highway. Where did you come up with highway 5?

From Jasper AB you can only get to Banff via 93 and you will see plenty of motor-homes on that highway. Heck, I've done it twice with my rig and I am 72 feet long with ,my coach and cargo trailer in tow.

That highway is the most scenic route in North America in my opinion. Plenty of opportunity to take photos and the rest of the trip will be burnt into your memory permanently.

Yes coming in on the 16. Coming up from Washington on 5 that connects to the 16.

A wonderful drive. We did it way back in 1979, then a small part recently. If you plan to stop at Lake Louise, be sure to arrive early to get a parking place.

We were worried about the road when we were there in Sept. Of 2015...so we left our rig at the CG in Lake Louise and drove the Ice Fields Parkway in a car. Next visit, and there will be a next visit, we will drive our Class A on that road.

As for going it slow, I agree with you. I took it slow and easy. I was passed by motor cycles, cars, trucks pulling fivers, all classes of motor homes, and three tour busses &#128545

This is such a beautiful drive (the most beautiful drive that I can remember), that I would be going just as slow again. Below is a Pano that I took with my iPhone while making one of my many stops along this parkway.
