Humm, I was surprised to see many poor reviews along the Michigan coast in Michigan on their state and independent parks. Used allstays app and rvparkreviews app.

Also, thought it odd that there is no RV camping very near Saugatuck! Any body have any favorites they can share as far north as Muskegon? We plan to start our first leg at Dunes State Park..

It has been about 10 years ... but we made a very nice trip up the west coast of Michigan staying in State Parks ... they were adequate in the sense the sites were large, the utilities worked, and safe. We always use the showers in our motorhome.

They weren't destination resorts but we were more interested in walking on the beaches, visiting nearby wineries, art galleries, etc.

We are heading up to a campground in Holland today. I'll post something soon. I do know there is a campground just north of holland we scouted out.....lovely topography but people were so packed in there we decided no way. Ever.

So here is my update. We stayed 2 nights at Oak Grove in hOlland Michigan. Lovely campground! I will warn you, if you have a big rig make sure you let them know. There are some premium sites the will accommodate the big boys but the regular sites are tight, not side to side so much as short, making maneuvering a bit challenging if you are backing in a TT and your across-the street neighbor have a car parked in front. The are a lot of 'park' units and semi-permanent tt's, and there is a lot of pride in how these are taken care of. Very nice. No pull throughout I could see. full hook ups. NICE pool and most sites have shade. Nice as it is, we weren't in the park much. Holland is great! Fabulous beach an easy walk or bike ride away. we took a 12 mile round trip bike ride into town, lots of restaurants and shops. The ride was very easy.

Holland state park even closer to the beach. This park will allow tent camping and there are some dry camping sites almost right on the beach, but NO shade.

lots of bike trails in Holland. highly recommended destination!

Its been about 7 years or so, but near Ludington there's several camp/rv resorts within walking distance to lk mich that are very nice. Spent a week up there once in our last 5er and the problem we had was trying to have a campfire, toooo breezie.

We live on the east side of MI and visit often the Lake Michigan coast. Hoffmaster State Park is great with a nice beach but no campsites on the beach. Grand Haven State Park is also great because it is right on the sandy beach. The down fall with that one is its basically just parking lot. But it's a short walk along the pier to some nice restaurants and and very nice and friendly downtown. It's been a few years but to he north is Sleeping Bear Dunes with a few good CG in the area. If you make it all the way around to Mackinaw, cross the Mighty Mac ( i think the fee was $10) and stay at St. Ignace State Park it's on the water with a great view of the bridge. A plus is the ferries to Mackinac Island are less crowded front the UP.

Two years ago we stayed at a KOA just north of Potaskie, Mi. It was excellent! From there it is only a short drive to the Mackinac Bridge. The city itself is also very nice.

RKH: Holland state park was on the Today show as one of the best State Parks in the nation, The main loop is filled up 6 months in advance but the overflow may have some openings next week. It would not be full hookup but still nice. You can walk to the state park from there. Ps if you like stop by and say hi we will be there starting 7/31 at site 380 on the loop.
