Lake Placid NY to Shellburne, Vermont

Some have suggested the Ferry, which might be fine for a car, but what if you want to drive around Lake Champlain. What's the best route?

Lake Placid to Plattsburg, to Rouse's Point, cross bridge to VT, 2 south to 89 south to 7 south and Shelburne. This a nice ride.
Consider one point. You will be spending more in fuel than the cost of the ferry Essex, NY to Charlotte,VT.

I agree, that is a nice easy scenic drive. also the route thru the champlaign islands wasn't as bad as I thought it would be given it was a nice country road. there are some nice rest areas around burlington.

I believe you can drive south through ticonderoga which is also a nice drive although I haven't been that way in years. both routes are probably quite a few hours drive.
