Liberty Road Mississippi okay for big rigs?

Hello,

We are getting ready to so some side trips on our way out to TX. My Good Sam planner is saying to take Liberty Road in Mississippi to go to Natchez from I10 but I can't find any info on whether it has low hanging trees or not. We are 13' high in the RV. Or, is there any route that is better such as 98?

Thanks in advance!

The Rand-McNally truckers road atlas does not show it approved for semi's and large trucks. The only HDT restrictions listed are weight limit of 57,650#, so your weight is not a problem, No height restrictions on Natchez Trace highways. It must be because it's narrow, tight corners, etc.
The one and only height restriction listed is on MS hwy 11 @ 13'.
I suggest calling the MS visitors bureau and/or state police with your question to make sure you will not have any issues.

Personally, I would not take such a large rig through Liberty Road. That said, U.S. 61, a.k.a., "The Great River Road," a.k.a., "Blues Highway," is four-laned from I-110 in Baton Rouge to Natchez. Perhaps not AS scenic, but certainly imbued with history as there are many 18th & 19th century homes preserved along the route.

The Trace, OTOH, does have height restrictions (14' according to NPS.gov - http://www.nps.gov/natr/planyourvisit/rvs.htm) and a 50 MPH speed limit; slower in some areas. The NPS does stress that The Trace is also bicycle-friendly and emphasizes that cyclists share the road with everyone. This may not be an issue as it is not yet Spring/Summer.

I also save my "Natchez Trip" for the fall to enjoy the "Great Mississippi River Balloon Race." But that's just me.

The River Road is used by RV caravans every year.

The Liberty Road was the route that the Good Sam trip planner put in but I don't trust it. We are going west and this is a side trip off of I10...so I think going up 55 and across 98 to get there, then back down 61 to get back on I10. Thanks for all the help!
