Been doing this for 4 years.
87, 78, 81, 77, 95.
a1a to 301, to 75 if going to the west coast.

I like I/84 to I/81 to I/77 to I/26 to I/95 There are some hills and one long 6% decent but much less traffic and tolls than around NYC.
If the weather is threatening I do I/84 to US 209 (NY-PA border) to PA 33 to I/78 back to I/81 .... If the bad weather continues south, I would take I/66 off I/81 to US 17 to I/95, but that's a last resort.

Avoid I-4 in Florida if possible.

Cavie, the new 301 by-pass around Stark Fl. is fantastic, gets rid of the 15 mph radar traps.

X 2 - This route is a bit longer than a straight run down I-95, but a less stressful and more enjoyable ride.
Travel safely,
Mary

Yep, Did that this year on the way home. Last year we came from Greenville SC and learned about 441 north of Atlanta to Macon.

Best route, travel it often, least traffic, 91, 84, 209, 80w, 81, 66, 17 to Fredericksburg, 95s. Go through Richmond on 95 it's not a problem, everyone takes 295 and it's busy.

84/81/77/26/95/301/75 We've tried every possible variant of this for years and always fall back on this one.

We have been doing the major highways going north and south for years. Boss lady said enough of that. Last year took 15s from Gettysburg and worked our way over to 17s. What a nice and fun trip. Lots of nice small town to stop in. Will be reversing this going north 2020.
Happy trails
