Maine to Nova Scotia

For those who have travelled the area...if going from Bangor, ME to Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, would you go thru' Fredricton, or St. John?

Also, what are the practices in Canada re: stopping in rest areas, etc.? Are there establishments such as Walmart who will allow you to overnite in their lots?

Thanks in advance.

I have not been to New Brunswick yet . But we do have Wallmarts . And I do see people camped over nite at them . Ask to park of course .We have also parked on Church lots, not on the weekend though .There are not a lot of rest areas ,wayside parks that are free ,are more popular .

I think St. John would be a little better that Fredrickton.
If you visit Hopewell Rocks ask for Fran Steeves and tell her Kix and Hari said hello.

When we were there it was common to see the occasional rig in lots for closed businesses.
If you are planning on visiting PEI take the ferry over and the bridge back to mainland. Saves you some bucks.

Bangor to Moncton

Personally I would take the route via Fredericton if only for the fact that its 4 lane divided highway on both sides of the border and less stressful for me with an RV.

Fredrickton is an easier drive.

I live here in Nova Scotia and have traveled both routes many times. Although Route 9 from Bangor to Calais has been upgraded over the years with many passing lanes, I still prefer I95 up to Houlton because it is twinned with a 75 mph speed limit (not that you will be traveling that speed ). Either route into New Brunswick will connect with twinned highways through New Brunswick and all the way to Halifax, Nova Scotia. Most Walmarts permit RV overnight parking...just let them know you are there. Have a great trip, our welcome mat is always open

We stayed overnight at the Walmart campground in Halifax. No problems. You will love the east coast. Love the tides in the Bay of Fundy. Love the east coast so much we are going to Newfoundland this year. Third time in four years for us.
