Not sure where to post this. The 405 Freeway through Los Angeles, California is now shut for the weekend and will experience major closures for the next 6 weeks. You may have to ask your GPS's to detour if you are going to be in that area.

Where are you getting this info?
While it's common knowledge that the 405 is closed for the weekend, there are no scheduled closures for the next 6 months. They go back to the same schedule they've been on for the last year. There is another closure in 6-9 months like this one but that's all.

SCVJeff - I am originally from that general area so my Direct TV still gives me LA news. This is what they are reporting. Total closure for this weekend and then intermittent closures for the next 6 weeks. Sorry if it's incorrect.

And I believe the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) also has lanes closed on it during that time period as well for work.

But they're all middle of the night for one or two hours tops. That's been going on for a few years and affects nothing since Sepulveda is the forced detour or there are general lane closures. You wouldn't believe the event the media has made on this. We all have sat trucks at the bridge, manned all weekend, and all 6 of the helicopters are up at 5am and fly till 11:30 tonight and again tomorrow, only landing for fuel and crew change. The good news is that it worked, and even at 7pm last night the freeway looked like 6am on a Sunday morn. .
If you're familiar with the pass and haven been there for awhile, you won't recognize it. There are places they have cut back at least 100' into the hillside and built massive holdback walls at least that high through the entire pass, and all without closing the fwy. The old Mulhulland and Sunset bridges are undergoing major construction as well. This is 24/7 work that has essentially zero affect on existing traffic to this point. We have a real-time camera pointed at the big bridge that we'll hopefully make a time-lapse segment once this is done to air. As screwed up as Cal-Trans usually is, they've done their homework on this one.
Correction: next closure slated in a year, not 6 mo. But at the speed everything else is running on the entire project it wouldn't be surprising to see that pushed up.

That's an emergency closure due to falling rocks. Perfect timing..

And if you are west bound on I-10 near (east of) Katy, TX, it will be shut down until 0500 Monday.

I'm not sure I want to give Cal Trans the credit for this one...the contractors are more in control these days and Kewitt is doing a great job on this one. I have worked on several of their projects and they are really on top of things most of the time. Cal Trans just seems to get in the way.

No big deal. In a few days the freeway will reopen and traffic will again go flying by at the usual speed in that area...25mph.
When I used to work at UCLA, I would read the newspaper while driving to work...the paper was in the car next to me. I could throw seeds out the window and watch them grow on the shoulder.
Whenever I see a post regarding travel through the Los Angeles area, I suggest taking the 210 and 118 to avoid the Sepulveda Pass, especially in an RV.
Happy Trails.

Well so far the entire town looks like Xmas on a Sunday morning... The news crews are parked all over town, and helicopters flying around at $2000/hr. looking at nothing. It'll be interesting if things are as boring as this next year when we get to do it again...

Amen to that...the age of 24hr a day news has destroyed journalism.
