Marble Falls Texas Heading North
Leaving on a trip out of Marble Falls Texas To Fayetteville AR in a couple of weeks. Plan on heading North on hy 281 until I get north of DFW. I don't want to get near I-35 between Dallas And Austin. Anybody know of any bad parts of 281 to avoid? Thanks, JD

Hi neighbor, we live in the Burnet/Bertram area and I too avoid I-35 whenever possible. Weekends can be busier but north on 281 to I-20 is generally not crowded and gas/diesel is available at big rig friendly stations in Burnet, Lampasas, Evant (nice small rest/truck stop owned by the local DPS officer), Hamilton, and Stephenville all before you get to I-20. I normally catch I-20 through DFW so I don't have much info from 20 north.
You might encounter an occasional slow moving agricultural vehicle as this is hay baling season but on average delays are minimal and traffic flows at the posted limit. Have a great trip!

Thunderfoot,
That is what I wanted to hear!!! We live in Lakeway. Drove the car to Little Rock last weekend and could not imagine taking the coach up 35 with all the traffic, aggressive drivers and construction. It is horrible between Austin and Dallas. So 281 it is! Thanks, again, JD

I suggest you look at this:
281 North to I-20 East to FM 51 North. This route will put you on I-35N at Gainesville, TX-well North of DFW metroplex. Then I-35N to I-40E to I-540N. If you are making this a two day trip, Winstar Casino's RV Park at mile marker 1 in OK is a nice stopover point.
3 big truck stops at 281 and I-20.
