Memphis, TN to Goshen, IN
Hi all!
I'm driving from Memphis, TN to Goshen, IN the first week of May. I'm going to RV Boot Camp and the Escapade.
I prefer secondary truck routes to the interstates.
Can anyone recommend a good route and places to stay overnight along the way? I usually do about 250 miles a day.
Thank you.
Liz

Haven't looked at the route close. But you might look up Sikeston Mo as a stopping point.
Lamberts Cafe is a super place to eat.
They have a large parking lot and will allow you to stay in their lot overnight.

The Cracker Barrel at Effingham, IL has about 6 RV/bus parking spots. Of course they are mostly full of cars until after the supper crowd, and the Super WalMart is just before the Cracker Barrel.
From there it's easy to take I 57N to US 24E to IN 15N to Goshen, IN.
This link has always been quite helpful for me when traveling: http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/trafficinfo/index.htm

I'm like you, I try to avoid interstates. I drove them for over 50 years through about 2/3 of the US and they can test your nerves sometimes.
I recently got back from a trip from Atlanta (West side) to Houston (Northwest side) for about 1650 miles and can honestly say I was on less than 10 miles of interstate the entire trip. I did have a quite a bit of 4 lane highway though.
Off of the interstates lets you relax and enjoy the scenery without someone breathing down you neck. You move with the natives (slow).
I also like to keep each segment of the trip around 200<> miles.

Just looking at a map route it looks like a good off interstate route would be to make your way to Evansville, using whatever route suits you best. From there take Hwy 41 North to Kentland, IN. Four lane all the way.
From Kentland take US24 East to Wabash, IN then Indiana Hwy 15 straight into Goshen. Not necessarily the shortest route but easy traveling.
That should give you at least 4 lane over half of the way there.
Highway construction will be up and running soon, if not already, so you may want to do a search on DOT websites in the states you travel for any issues there.
Look for RV campgrounds at: www.allstays.com A good website that pretty much covers all the stops available, Gas, Dumps, you name it.
