We are planning a trip to Reno and return for September/October this year. Will spend several days in and around Moab and then Mesa Verde NP. We have not traveled the route from Mesa Verde to Santa Fe. Looks like 160E to Pagosa Springs, CO., and then 84 S to 285 to Santa Fe. Will appreciate any comments by those who have driven this route recently. Thanks.

We've driven most of that route at one time or another, some of it this past summer. You shouldn't have any problems with it.

I'd recommend a side trip to Canyon DeChelley National monument (NE AZ). It's an overlooked but very beautiful and interesting area. You could access it via U.S. 666 and N.M. 134 and AZ 12 south of Shiprock.
