Michigan to Southwest in October

We're planning our first Winter awy from Michigan, and we plan on heading to Albuquerque, via Denver, Grand Junction, and through Durango for the Balloon Fiesta the first week in October. We also plan on going over to Sedona then on to Yosemite in mid-October, then back to Albuqerque through Thanksgiving. Then, down to the Tuscon area for December, january & February. Can we expect rough going at that time of year ? I'm particularly concerned about the Denver to Grand Junction to Durango to Albuquerque leg. We'll be driving a National TropiCal 37' w/ Cat 350 towing a Saturn Aura.

Denver I do not know about but in October you *SHOULD* be OK,,, The key word is SHOULD, less something happens, (And remember I don't know Denver)

I took a slightly different route in 2006 leaving Detroit, MI on the evening of the Tuesday before Thanksgiving... I made it with only one minor disaster (Froze up in Wyoming, thawed in Utah, broke one fitting, repairs <$10.00) but I wished to go via Pender, and Lincoln NE..

IN October, outside of Denver, I would not expect any nasty stuff,, but surprises happen.

Home is where I park it!

There are two factors concerning your route: weather and drivability

The weather on I-70 between Denver and Grand Junction has two higher mountain passes where you could encounter storms in October (Vail Pass and Eisenhower tunnel) ...

US-550 between Montrose and Durango is not recommended for trucks because of curves and grades ... see Mountain West Directory for Truckers and RVs

I suggest you spend $15 and get one of these directories .. they are available from Amazon or the publisher .. I bought one of these after my copilot encouraged me to select a route that we laugh about now ... but I was not laughing in the middle of the route
