Mitchell South Dakota

Traveling from Ponca City OK and heading to Mitchell SD , pulling a 40' FW, which is best route to travel and any suggestions of rv parks to stay at along the way, prefer not to travel on toll roads, thanks in advance.

Just about every route has some toll road.

540 miles is I-135

567 miles via 15/69/81 - Columbus/Norfolk/Yankton then 50W to 37N

631 miles via I-35/335/75/I-29 - Wichita Topeka/Omaha/Sioux City/Sioux Falls

I would take 60 west to 177 turn north till it meets with us81.
Take 81 north to i235 around Wichita then on 135 north meets us 81.
Stay on 81 to i90 in SD then west to Mitchell. No tolls at all this route.

There is a Cabelas in Mitchell on the south side of I-90 that encourages RVers to stop in and spend the night. You will likely spend the night with 15-20 rigs parked around you. Free except for the $$ you will spend inside

Don't forget to visit the corn palace, in Mitchell, if you haven't already.

Mitchell Lake has a nice little campground we stayed at before... we were towing the trailer behind our little MOHO and they gave us a pull through... I believe it is either City owned or county... not expensive... nice sized spots. folks running it when we were there couple years ago were really nice.
Depending on which route you take, Hillsdale State park has a nice campground east of Ottawa, KS on hiway 68... Might be a good overnight option. Sorry I don't know the campgrounds west of I 35 well enough to give you good options there.
