More advice please

Need to find the safest, flattest route from Deming NM to Florida. Any suggestions.... I-40, I-20, I-10. We tend to like the interstates. Older 33' Class A Gas engine pulling a Jeep wrangler. Thanks so much.......

Per Google maps I-10 and I-20 are both ~1,550 miles from Deming to Tallahassee --> https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Demi...9!2d30.4382559

Based on my recent experiences, I'd think I-20 would be a bit faster route as:

1) Driving across Dallas-Fort Worth is a bit quicker than driving across Houston (I-10 gets very congested at the I-45 intersect).
2) I -10 between Beaumont, TX to the Louisiana state line is very slow with significant congestion. I-10 in this stretch is very rough.
3) I-10 is also horribly rough between Lafayette and Baton Rouge.
4) Traffic comes to a near stand-still on I-10 starting 3-4 miles west of Baton Rouge as I-10 / I-110 traffic merges to SINGLE lane!
5) There is significant construction on I-12 on the east side of Baton Rouge.
6) If you have concern about your motorhome climbing "hills", there are tall, rather steep bridges along I-10 as it crosses major rivers between Beaumont, TX and the Louisiana / Mississippi state line.

Perhaps others can share current experiences on I-20 congestion, construction, etc.

Hope this helps!

Take number 4 in the above post. Argh. I have been stuck in bumper to bumper on I-10 coming down the bridge there. I hate that interchange.

I mostly agree with the above voting for I-20 over I-10

Another vote for !-20 over I-10. Drove I-10 once and hated almost the whole trip - was our first big trip so didn't know any better. We did spend some time in San Antonio, Houston and New Orleans so didn't have a lot of choices.

I-40 is a good choice if you are in less of a hurry. Nice road but is the old Route 66. For the most part, bypasses all of the towns that Route 66 went though so you could use it as an interstate and just ignore the temptations. Hard to bypass Winslow Arizona though - at least for us. If you are not in a hurry, then I-40 might be the best. If you ARE in a hurry, then I-20.

Oh, I-40 probably the one with the least flatness, but not bad at all.

Just noticed you are starting in Deming, stay on I-40 and ignore the part about Winslow!!

more advice please

Thanks for the info. My wife is petrified of steep climbs and descends in our home. so it's tuff to plan this trip out west. I'm sticking to the interstates in the hopes that they will be flatter. I guess we will take I40 home from NM.

FYI, I40 has a significant climb east out of Albuquerque and significant descent east of Clines Corners. Highways 60, 380, and 82 all cross mountain chains with climbs and descents with much that is 2 lane.

Since Deming is on I-10, I can't imagine why you would go all the way up to I-40! Count mine as another vote for I-20 (once it splits off I-10 in west Texas).
