Mountain Interstate Roads?
How do the interstate roads in Montana and Wyoming compare to I-40 between Knoxville, TN and Asheville, NC? I am wondering about percent grades, twists, restrictions of lanes, speed limit, etc.
I was not expecting the percent grades and twists when driving from Knoxville and Asheville. I drove the speed limits, but the trucks was passing me like crazy even with the lane restrictions for trucks only.

I-40 easiest route, especially when considering grades and turns I-70 steepest while I-80 not bad grades or curves but long grades and I-94 not bad on curves but some pretty good grades. Personally I-40 best or I-94 good but some steep runs, which I do not care for but what is a girl to do if going to Seattle Area unlxess you run I-40 to I-5 but then you run up/down grapevine, which is long / steep but pretty straight, if memory serves well.

The Allstays app shows grade warnings on the roads. Very useful.

I haven't used that, but the Truckers Mountain Guide is considered by some to have the best information Mountain Directory for Truckers, RV, and Motorhome Drivers

We just drove that route a month ago. Found the same thing you did. Just drive at your comfort level and be safe. That's what we do.

The I routes are the fastest and flatest roads. Think 70mph and 7% grades are the design standard with a few exceptions do to mega mountains. If you want to see the country you need to get used to these or I don't have a solution for you.

Go to flattestroute.com. Good site for trip planning between any two points.

Just came east on 80 from Evanston to Julesburg--piece of cake with a nice west wind. Lots of long grades, but not too steep, as mentioned above. If your power unit is in good shape and not maxxed out on load, then you'll do fine.

I-80 in Wyoming is a snap. Coming from the east, there's a long but easy grade up from Cheyenne to the little rest stop noting the highest elevation of I-80, and then a bit of a twisty turny downhiller down to Laramie. After that, for pretty much the rest of the way west to Utah, it's nothing at all.
I think you'll find that out west, the grades and curves are actually EASIER to navigate, in many cases, than many spots in the east. For example, on some of the interstates in West Virginia and down along the backbone of the Appalachains, there are steeper grades than you find out west, because the LENGTH of the grade is shorter. I-68 around Cheat Lake in WV is an example, as are some of the spots along I-64 and I-40 in WV, TN, and NC. Out west, the grades are 10 to 20 miles long in spots. Around Cheat Lake, you've got about 1/2 a mile to drop 750 feet....

Driven most of these roads and all are very doable - just take your time. We travel through North Carolina a great deal. Gotta say the stretch of I40 East or West in North Carolina is the worst piece of road simply because of the tight curves and large vehicles that don't get 55 MPH. JMO

Very True, IMHO the driving out West on all the roads is just easier, (Well almost all the Roads ) nice rounded switchbacks and long gentle grades.
I-68 is a great example.
