Mt. Rushmore to Salt Lake City

Heading to SLC this week end. What is the best route there? I don't mind 2 lane highways, just don't want steep grades and tight corners. Coming up out of Keystone, SD should I stay to the left on 16 or go all the way back to Rapid City? Don't trust the gps.

From Keystone the fastest route to Moorcroft, WY is N to I-90 then west. 133 miles, 2 hr. 3 min. By US 16 it's 108 miles, 2 hr 4 min.

Not sure how you want to get to SLC from there, but if you go US 16, just past Newcastle, WY take WY 450 W to WY 59 N. Go on WY 59 3 miles, then turn left on WY 387 W to I-25. Go S on I-25 to Cheyenne and then W on I-80.

This goes through a lot of grassland and avoids mountains until I-80 near Laramie. Of course you bypass Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, and other spots, but it's the most direct way to SLC.

Never mind, I'm going to head back on 16 to I-90 and go back down I-25 to Casper. I thought there might be an easier/quicker way, but with a 39' MH and a Toad on the back, better safe then sorry.

My suggested route is good 2 lane highway, like most of Wyoming, with a wide berm. Not a twisty, mountain road. I've done it in a bus and with my RV.

US 16, just past Newcastle, WY take WY 450 W to WY 59 N. Go on WY 59 3 miles, then turn left on WY 387 W to I-25. Go S on I-25 to Cheyenne and then W on I-80.

Thanks Bob, but it looks like I'm going to run into wind again like on my way up here. Since we're in no hurry, we'll go back the way we came. The wife likes the interstates better then two laners.
