Myrtle beach to Charleston

We're leaving Myrtle Beach for Fort Myers, Florida on Kan. 2nd. Mapquest is telling me to take US 378 West to get to I-95. That adds a lot of miles on, so I'm looking at taking Us-17 south past Charleston and catching I-95 southwest of Charleston. Do any of you know the condition of US-17 through this area? We're driving a 37' DP pulling a Saturn Aura.

Myrtle beach to Charleston road report

I live in Charleston and can tell you that the road is for the most part great. Once in Mt. pleasant there will be some construction but if you don't mind adding about 10 miles you can take the 526 loop to the end and it will put you back on 17 avoiding city traffic. Continue along 17 for about 60 miles where it will let you off on I 95 at SC exit 33. Good luck and happy motoring!

I took this US17 south to I-95 route from MB to the west coast of FL twice. Once I took US17alt at Georgetown to I-95 at Walterboro. I stayed overnight at the Walmart in Moncks Corners. The second trip I took US17 via Charlestown and entered I-95 at exit 33. No problems and an easy drive.

Note: altUS17 is a little on the narrow side through the Marion National Forest with little berm but not a problem.

Took 17 south from MB to Charleston this last summer. Nice drive. Don't remember the name of the bridge just north of Charleston but big and incredible views. Also have 37' with a toad. There was some construction that went on for some time just as we were entering Charleston. Not sure if completed but even with construction traffic flow was still not too bad. Happy travelling.
