Hi pushtrk99,
One must cross the Smoky's on I40. I40 gets to about 2500 feet above sea level (the mountains are much higher). Patience going up and down shift going down. Just get in the truck lane and enjoy the mountain scenery. When you get to Ashville, you will have done the toughest part of the climb (Black Mountain).

We traveled down to Florida in Feb (without a MH) on I-40 and it was a beautiful ride; had a nice sunny few days of clear roads. On our return trip N, we had purchased our MH planning to head up I-75 pulling our car on a rented trailer. Ended up having to take it through Cumberland Gap (I-40, I-81, and US 25 up to Corbin KY. Although this was not our plan, we managed better than we thought we would up and down the hills, through tunnels and saw some great scenery. Since we were new at this car towing and MH driving and managed well, I am sure you will be fine! Safe travels! BTW, we have stayed at Army Corp of Engineer campgrounds in Tenn in the past and they were very nice and reasonable.
