Need help selecting the Best route from Custer City to Cody

I will be traveling from Custer City SD to Cody Wy in Mid-August this year. Not sure of the best way to get there in a 40' Class A with tow. I have checked the WY Highway Patrol site and they do not recommend HW 14 or 16 because of the steep grades and hairpin turns, sooooo, does anyone have any suggestions as to which route/s to take? Thanks so much for any suggestions.

I did it a couple of years ago with a pickup and 40' Toyhauler. I used Highway 16. There is a good climb up to Powder River Pass (9666") and a long decent down through Ten Sleep Canyon. The roads are good, the grade is not too steep, and the curves are not too sharp. I'd do it this way again. It is a beautiful drive.

We used 16 from Buffalo to Cody last sept. 40 ft DP towing. No problem. 14 is more suited for sports cars and motorcycles. Have done it on our motorcycle.

Get to Moorcroft by US 16 then I-90 to Buffalo then US 16 to Cody. I did this route in reverse several years ago with my 40' motorhome with a tow. Sure, there are big hills and some sharp turns but let your exhaust or compression brake and transmission do most of your braking.

We also took 16 out of Custer and merged onto Westbound 90 at Moorcroft. No problem in our 37’ DP pulling a 4 Dr. Wrangler.
