Need inspiration & ideas!

Hubby & I have about the first 3 weeks of June for traveling. Won't be much after that until a week or so in August, and beyond. We're in So Cal....been to a lot of places.....just having a hard time getting inspired to plan for this trip. Thought of Oregon coast, but know that early June is not the best time for that, and would really rather save it for a warmer time period. Any thoughts? Did Grand Canyon,Bryce,Zion, Monument Valley last summer, and loved it. We love historical sites. Also love to find a wonderful spot and just relax for a few days with little sightseeing..other days we could go all day sightseeing. Eventually we want to do New England and Florida/Carolinas, but want to wait on those trips till we have more time, like 5-6 weeks.
Have been to Yellowstone/Tetons..know that can be chilly in June, and can even snow.
Help! I've never had this problem before!

Hi and welcome to the forum!

You've probably already done it but the central California coast is among our favorites. It's pretty close to home for you but Pismo Beach, Paso Robles, and maybe up to Carmel/Monterey. Even farther north the Napa Valley is pretty nice that time of year.

It's funny how spoiled one gets after being retired for a few years. Three weeks just doesn't sound like enough time to go very far.

Be safe.

So true! Now we have all the time we want, and 3 weeks doesn't sound like much! You're right about the Central Coast of CA...love it! Hubby loves Benbow area up by Garberville...nice RV park alongside it. I love the gold country..might like to explore more around Nevada City. We'll see! Thanks!!

For 25 years I lived not far from Nevada City (Granite Bay) and there's lots to see in the Gold Country. Beautiful in June.

We stayed close to home for the shake down cruise when our rig was new and we really liked 49er Village Home Page.

How about Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado? and Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico? both places are fabulous. Would be about 2500 mile round trip from Southern Cal to do both places. You could always do one of them to save travel time.

How about Las Vegas? not far from home and a great place to have fun. Hoover Dam and the red rocks are great to see.

Thank you all for your suggestions! We've been to Las Vegas MANY MANY times (TOO many times--we go frequently and also Mesa Verde, and Carlsbad Caverns, though its been 30 years since the last visit to those 2 spots. Am thinking now of the southern Colorado area.....

We did Grand Canyon last year

We did Grand Canyon last year along with areas in southern CO. It was a round trip from Denver for us. I have our experiences documented on our blog if you want to look at them.

This year were doing Mount Rushmore and South Dakota.

Have fun with your trip!

We are all really spoiled. You mention southern Colorado. Nice trip, Mesa Verde, Durango. Do the narrow gage railroad ride to Silverton. If you do this do the Gondola, its cheaper and much easier to view the scenery, take a lite jacket. Then take the road north from Durango all the way ro Montrose hiway 550. Beautiful, Maybe north to NE Utah, Flaming Gorge. There is much to see in this country. I am a retired cross country trucker. Drove the Same truck 3.1 million miles, so I have seen much of this country, but still enjoy it again. good travels, old trucker.

I agree with the suggestion of Durango and the railroad. Pretty neat. I would stay a night or two in Durango, taking one day to do the railroad. I really enjoyed walking around town. They have really done a nice job of fixing it up. I would then drive up and stay a couple of nights in Silverton. If you do not have a four wheel drive vehicle, you can rent one there and drive some of the most amazing dirt roads. The views from over 12,000 ft are amazing and the ghost towns are fun. You will probably then decide to stay more days and explore more. Take it easy and stay up there a week.

Put Moab on your list of possible places. We just got back from 10 days in Moab and the scenery is beautiful. June is still not too hot there and every place you go is amazingly different.

Sounds like you have done some backyard trips there in CA., but no mention of Death Valley, Sequoia, Kings Canyon or Yosemite. Terrific NPs and further north, Lassen Volcanic was a beautiful drive through. Crater Lake is another. Bob
