New Mexico tourist attractions
We will be taking a trip out west this spring and would like your suggestions on things to see. To make this simpler, I would like to do it one state at a time, starting with New Mexico. What attractions have you found most interesting in New Mexico? Thanks for your help!

In Albuquerque you can take the tram up the Sandia(?) mountains. Quite a view. Santa Fe is pretty good tourist area.

Carlsbad Caverns
Cloudcroft
Ruidoso
White Sands/Alamogordo
The drive from Ruidoso to San Antonio, NM is pretty scenery and goes through an old lava field.
Gila National Forest
Sante Fe
Albuquerque - Old Town - Touristy and shopping
Tram ride to Sandia peak
Drive from Sante Fe through Chama to Pagosa Springs, CO
So many more
Have a good trip

Only advice I can give you is that if you miss that left turn in Albuquerque you'll end up somewhere unexpected!

What, nobody has been to Roswell?  It was interesting seeing the things that really never happened.

Steve, do you mean to tell me that you don't believe in UFO's! Why, I saw one of them just yesterday (when my wife threw the skillet at me!)  Yep, Roswell is definitely on my list!

When we visited Santa Fe area, I enjoyed the Indian cliff dwellings at Bandlier Monument. Mostly easy hiking.

If you want to go from the stone age to the atomic age in a single day continue on to Los Alamos and the Bradbury Atomic Museum.

If you are going to spend at least a month in New Mexico, I highly recommend purchasing their non-resident State Park camping permit for $225 which is good for a full 12 months from the time of purchase. This permit allows you to dry camp in the State Parks for free, have electric (and sometimes water) for $4, or full hookups for $8 (there are few NM SPs with full hookups, and...in our experience...those are crammed together cheek to jowl). Index (This is SUPPOSED to be the link to the New Mexico State Parks website...I wish these forums would show the URL as entered instead of using the name of the page given by the web designer...which, in this case, is useless.)
