We will soon be going from NO to Port Isabel TX and want to avoid I-10 in Louisiana, the worst interstate we have ever been on. It looks like US 90 might work to get past Houston, but I would like to know more about that route, or any other suggestions. What are the road conditions? Any suggested rv parks along the way? Any sights to see? Any spots to avoid? Anything else we should know?

We might want to stay around Galveston/Houston for a couple of days to see Houston Space Center. Any suggestions for rv parks there?

Except for about 20 miles of "short section" roadway between the Atchafalaya bridge and Lafayette, I-10 is actually a very good road. We have traveled it several times in the last year. Old HWY 90 is miles of 2-way traffic and small town redlights, so that would not be our choice.

Since we live in the Houston area, I can't recommend any campground other than the San Jacinto Riverfront RV Resort at Highlands. San Jacinto Riverfront RV Resort in Highlands,Texas - 19 miles from Houston

years ago we stayed at bay town rv park by houston . very nice resort.

The problem I found with I-10 was the sudden very rough transistions when going on or off bridges, overpasses, etc. We came eastbound in January with our 5er. When we got set up in NO we found furniture repositioned, a drawer slide broken, and the fifth wheel hitch inoperable.

The longer bouncy sections you mentioned are annoying, but you can slow down and get through them. Its those sudden sharp bangs you can't see coming that do the damage. I figure if I can only drive safely at 50mph, I maybe can do it on a more scenic route.

I always suggest Green Caye RV Park in Dickinson, TX. It is about 15-20 miles from Galveston, 30 minutes from downtown Houston, 15 minutes from the Kemah Boardwalk and easy access to shopping and other things in the area.

There are others in the area as well. If you see one your are interested in, PM me and I'll give you my "take" on it.

Let me know what you decide and I'll give you "easy" directions.

Green Caye looks like our kind of place. Will definitely keep it in mind. Will be heading to Port Isabel, so that works well too. What about coming into Galveston via 87 and the ferry?
