Nipton to Searchlight

Is anyone familiar with NV 164 from Nipton, CA to Searchlight, NV. I want to go from Baker to Laughlin and I can bypass Las Vegas if I go through Nipton. The road looks like it goes through a pass at about 5000 feet but it doesn't look very curvy. Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

It's been quite a few years since traveling that road, but I remember it being straight as an arrow.

You would miss almost all of Las Vegas by taking St Rose Parkway (at the south end of Las Vegas) off of the 15 north to the 215 and then 95 south to the river but it might be a longer drive than what you propose. 215 can be busy in the afternoon rush hour that direction.

I was on 164 a couple of years ago. I don't remember any issues.

Well now I can answer my own question. I took NV 164 yesterday and had no problems. The road is mostly straight, fairly smooth, about a 2000 foot climb and descent over a ridge. If you are into Joshua trees this is the road you want to take. You will see thousands.
