NJ to CT

This weekend I have to take my RV from central NJ to near Hartford CT (CT Motor Cars and Coaches) for service and repairs. I would like recommendations for best route with 40' RV + Towed.

My inclination is GSP to 287 to 684 to 84.

Second choice is GSP to 17 to 287 to 87 to 84. This adds about 25 miles.

I will be traveling on Sunday, so I don't think traffic should be a big issue either way.

The shortest route is GSP - NJ Turnpike - GW bridge, etc. which I am not interested in doing, even if I was in a car.

Experience and advice welcomed.

Thanks,

Randy

Your first route sounds good to me, have used it many times myself although I've never gone on the GSP with my RV due to where I was coming from.

Choice 1 involves the Tapan Zee bridge, always congested and under construction.

Choice 2, Going up to the Newburg Beacon bridge is cheaper and, a less traveled route.

Do they allow motor homes on the northern section of the GSP? I tried to find it on the NJDOT website, but it's a typical gummiint site; completely worthless.

Anyone in NJ know for sure and can help out the OP?

Yes you can run the whole parkway, only "heavy trucks" exit at 105.

They caution you to move to the center lanes, past the I 287 exit. Some old arched bridges up there. Tight lanes and heavy traffic, thru there.

Atlantic City bus` run it all the time.

Good trip

Option 2 is the one we use all the time. I would venture that it will be faster in the long run.
Travel safe. They are predicting snow for Saturday afternoon through Sunday.
