We are leaving this Wednesday for Myrtle Beach, S.C. staying at Ocean Lakes.
We live in Bergen County, N.J. and I typically take the NJ Turnpike & 95 all the way down. Does anyone have another suggested route? I've heard about taking Rt. 81?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike R.

Mike, you didn't say if you had time or you were on a fixed schedule. I personally avoid 95 at all costs and go down the DelMarVa peninsula, and pick up 17 for the remainder of the trip..

iRV2's first [2001] National Rally was in Myrtle Beach and I took a leisurely route home. I took 501 out of Myrtle Beach to 378 to I-20 to I-77 North to I-81. Wasn't in a hurry and it was very scenic, albeit I-77 thru Charlotte which was a little stressful.
I know there are more direct routes, but I always prefer I-81 to I-64 over any other route.

I use 301 pick it up in Delaware by pass Baltimore and DC it will bring you out just above Richmond on 95.
May take a little longer with a but I have never taken another way since I sat in traffic for three hours just north of Baltimore.
The scenery is a lot nicer than along the beltways.

I agree with Park. We have taken the route he descibed for almost 16 years going to MB from Ct. It will take a little longer but you stress levels will be a lot lower.

I just have to ask,......this route avoids D.C. & Balt. But......what route do you use to get around (through?) NYC from CT?
Traffic, as long as it is moving, doesn't bother me. But with the MH and toad the Tappan Zee Bridge and I-287 is about as close to the city as I want to get.

Hi All,
Hey Mike R, The NJTPK, I-95 to 501 route is the quickest & shortest at about 685 miles, 11 1/2 hours, this was from Hackensack,NJ to MB,SC! However it is not an easy or relaxing ride at all!
Now the NJTPK, I-78, I-81, I-64, I-95 to 501 route is about 828 miles, 13 hrs 40 mins. also from Hackensack, NJ to MB,SC. Although it is a longer ride it is also a much more enjoyable ride IMHO !
As a matter of fact when I leave the Outter Banks,in the end of April! I am going to do the I-64 to I-81 route, back to NJ! Hope this helped some and no matter which route you end up taking enjoy the trip !!

Save 13 miles by eliminating I-66 and staying on route 17 from Winchester to I-95. 13 miles = 2 gallon$.

Colleen,
We'll be at Ocean Lakes the 20th - 27th. Coming off I95, I know I ended up on 501 which takes me to their gate but I can't remember if it was the 501 exit or an earlier one that I take. Night before we are staying in Emporia, VA.
Unfortunately we'll miss seeing you guys since I know you & Mike will be at a couple of rallys in NC.

Bob,
I-95 exit 181 (where the Flying J is) for SR 38. About 8 miles later 38 meets 501.

U.S. 17 from Winchester is how I go but a lot of folks don't like the 45 mph stretch or get scared away by the "No Trucks" signs.
That piece of U.S. 17 is one of the prettiest stretches of road in the East.

Hi All,
Hey Bob as you head into MB on 501 and you come through Conway, you want to make a right onto 544 that is the road that comes out right across the street from Ocean Lakes! Hope this helps you !
