I have been on the portion from Taos to Tres Piedras, but not from TP to Chama. Map shows it to hit 10400 ft. Just wondering if it is doable in a 45' with tag.

We have driven it with our 40' MH. This is what the 'Mountain Directory for Truckers and RVers' states: Eastbound from Chama at MP 200-1/2 to MP 108-1/2 the descent starts at 3% for a couple miles & then 5-6% for about 6 miles. Two lane with 35 mph curves.

If you know how to handle downhills with your RV you shouldn't have any problem. It's not a busy highway so just take your time and 'try' to enjoy the views!

In re-reading your post I'm not sure what direction you are questioning so I'll give you the readout from Tres Piedras to Chama: Westbound descent from MP 193 to MP 185. The first 5 miles are mostly 6% grade with 30 mph curves. It eases to 4% for a couple miles and then 3% for several miles.

We just did it the other direction last month with 5th wheel and no problems. I just traded a 07Monaco Exec 45' w/tag and I would not have hesitated to take it on that road. There is several scenic pull offs on the western portion for a good view.
