Northern Indiana to Dubuque, IA

I plan to travel next month from the Newmar plant in Nappanee to Dubuque, IA. I am concerned about toll roads around Chicago and the hills in NE Illinois. Any idea what the tolls are? I am towing a car on a toll dolly. Is it better to go north at Rockford into Wis. and across southern Wisc.? Thoughts? Ideas appreciated.

I *think* you can avoid most tolls...google the route and I bet you can avoid the tolls and end up taking 80 (very easy driving) across Illinois.

Hi Jeidy, You"re heading for my home town. Born and raised in DubyQ Bucksmom is right on the money, I-80 will be the easiest drive. You might hit a short stretch of toll road as you work your way out of Indiana. You can take I-80 all the wat to Davenport and then take 61 North to Dubuque. Not too many steep hills and no hair raising curves at all.

I don't think there ARE any hills in Northern Illinois. It's pretty flat from the southern third of the state northward. Glaciers plowed that terrain flat and filled in all dips. An occasional river valley, but no hills.

Illinois is generally fairly flat with gentle rolling hills in places, But when you start getting near the Mississippi river there are some a few nasty spots. Especially between Rockford and Dubuque

We just drove through Chicago area on I-80 and took a couple of other roads to by pass the tolls. Additionally we drove thru Michigan to avoid the Indiana and Ohio toll roads as well.
There was no problems in the Chicago other than heavy traffic going east, not much coming west.
Have your navigator pay close attention to the route and go over it before you get there.
