That's exactly the route I would choose, so of course I think
It's fine!

The only change I would make would be around CT, NY and PA. I've been in some tremendous traffic jams in CT at all times of the day and night so usually try to bypass it.

In MA, you can get on 90W (Mass. Turnpike) and take that to 87S (NY Thruway) down to 84W. We did that 87/90 route when going to PEI and it did not add much time to the trip.

I've seen posts that 81 is in bad condition in northeastern PA, so you can take 87S to 287S through NJ and hop on 78W which will lead to back to 81 near Harrisburg, PA. Plus NJ has low gasoline prices so you can fill up on your way through. Gas at Pilot in 78 is about $2.99 a gallon.

We have a farm right off 78 Exit 11 in NJ, so PM me if you need a place to overnight!

Safe travels!

Thanks Tom, I may have to rethink that part of the route....I appreciate your suggestions.

Not a bad idea, worth looking at. A few weeks ago we drove I-84 EB from Scranton into MA. Some construction areas in CT , and some tough road in western CT, and in the Waterbury - Hartford areas. Doing I-90/I-87 would add about 50 miles- all of it toll road- but it may be worth it to you.

I just drove I-81 NB in that area a few weeks ago, from I-80 up to the I-84 connector in Scranton. I don't recall any bad road, at least through that stretch, but that's only 35 miles.

Thanks John. Tolls don't bother me. I am looking at that route. My comfort zone for driving is about 55 mph so I want to keep inland as much as possible away from all the coastal traffic.

Left Minuteman Campground, MA. yesterday and traveled I495 to I290, to I90, to I84W to Greentown, PA(Promiseland State Park, not impressed). Hit some road construction but nothing to worry about, we were still able to run at 50 through the zones unless posted otherwise. We'll be in So. Md. today for three weeks to visit with family, then it's off to Foley, Al.

Just did Nova Scotia to Harrisburg, PA. Did the exact route you planned. It was fine. Some construction on I81 northern PA but nothing serious. 'RVthere" suggestion on I78 I don't like. Living in this area I know i78 is a terrible road. OTR trucks beat it to death! Rough and construction all the time. I always try to avoid it.

Good Luck. Toot your horn as you pass I81, Exit 77. I will be able to hear it!

Bob, we will be passing that exit around 9 AM on Tuesday Oct 28 as we will have just camped north of you at the Twin Grove Resort and Campground.

I cannot see exact detail on the Charlotte to Savannah leg, but I assume it is I-77 - I-26. - I-95. That's the route we usually take to FL. btw...there is a relatively new Flying-J in St George SC (I-95 exit 77) that is a good cheap fuel stop before getting to GA.
