NY Rte 8 Vermont Smugglers Notch

Has anyone been across Rte 8 in the southeast part of the NY Adirondacks lately? The last time we went across it we had to slow to about 10 MPH due to the rough road. Has it been fixed? Also, would like to check out Smuggler's Notch in Vermont. Is it open this time of year?

I went thru Smuggler's Notch last week. It appeared that most things were open. It definitely wasn't crowded, but there were people there.
