Good morning.
Just curious about what may be our best bet to head down to Disney from the I-84 area here in NY. In the past we've gone the I-95 route, but the last trip on it proved to be a parking lot through DE-MD areas. We'd been going to Myrtle Beach via I-87, I-78, I-81 to 17 in VA to I-95 and head south. Is that still our best route? Or do we chance I-95-we are leaving NY at around 3am on a Wed morning.
Then the new trick will be coming back from Disney and heading up to Myrtle Beach. What's the best way to do that? We've never done that one before coming in from the South. Suggestions?
Anyone know links for road conditions along the route?
Thanks,
Nell

We like I/84 to I/81 to I/77 to I/26 to I/95 to I/4.
This is 40 miles longer than 95 but so much nicer.
In the winter if there will be ice or snow Rt 209 at the PA border to I/80 to Rt 33 to I/78 to I/81 at Harrisburg.... But I/78 is so bad we only use it to keep out of the icey mountains on 81.

I do this route often. I81 to US17 at Winchester, then US17 to I95 at Fredericksburg is the best route. EZ grades. You can park overnight for free on US 17 just south of Warrenton and see a great barnstorming air show (Sunday shows only) at http://www.flyingcircusairshow.com
Last fall I drove from Myrtle Beach to Florida. I took ALT 17 from Georgetown (just south of MB) to I95 at Walterboro. The road was narrow and rural but no problem in a motorhome. We'll be doing the MB to FL again after Thanksgiving and this time I plan to take regular US17 to SC exit 33 I95.

I've done the same route as Cousin Ed. In fact, anytime I head south I take I-81 and then cut over to I-95 where convenient. But by all means, take I-84 to I-81. Even I-87 and I-287 (in NJ) to I-78 can be extremely bad. Not only that, portions of I-78 in PA are absolutely horrible.
Coming back, you can take I-95 to Myrtle Beach. when you leave Myrtle beach I took (I think it was) 378 to I-77 to I-81. I never take I-95 thru the DC area unless I'm going to DC.
