Oklahoma City to Kennewick Washington

Google Maps keeps trying to put me on Hwy. 287 out of Fort Collins up to Laramie Wyoming. Anyone know if this is a good route for me with a 40' rig pulling a toad with a wife that has to see the ground right out her window or she panics?

Also, how about the rest of the route, anything I should know about road or pass wise. We'll be going the end of September. The weather should be good this time of year, been 95deg plus for the last month here.

I don't know about 287 but why not just take I-25 to Cheyenne and head west from there. I don't know recall any huge drop offs between there and Salt Lake but it's been a while.

Going from there through Boise, is an easy drive with one additional pass soon after entering Oregon. Do consider that there is a fairly high bridge crossing the Columbia River.

There is really not much difference in elevation between US 287 or I-25 to Laramie. The US 287 is about 20 miles shorter. If you are an Interstate type person, stay on I-25.

You can use this website to see elevation on your route. Just click to add start and finish points, then grab the line to add way points.

You will get a really nice quick descent going into Pendleton, Oregan but I don't see any way to avoid that one.

Funny thing is, I am sitting in Kennewick right now getting ready to head farther west.

Good route 287- go that way all the time- much shorter and I25/I80.
