Oklahoma City to Tampa

Can anyone recommend a good route? Also any roads to avoid? I remember reading that I40 somewhere east of here is in bad shape. Thanks. Jim

Hi Geri and Jim,
1. I40 East to Memphis, TN
2. Route 78 To Birmingham, AL
3. I65 to Montgomery, AL
4. Route 231 to I10 in Fl.
5. I10 East to I75
6. I75 South to I275 just north of Tampa
7. I275 to Tamps, FL

As an alternate route, when you get to #4, take Route 231 all the way to Route 98, in Florida. Take Route 98 east/south all the way to Tampa. It is a slower route, but provides a better view of old Florida.

Jim,

I would go with Gary's alternate route of US-98 along the FL panhandle. Pick it up in Pensacola home of the Blue Angels. Most of the time you will be right along the gulf, it is one of the great drives in FL. We spent the last two year ends in Mexico Beach, FL just west of Panama City. We love that area of FL, but it can get cold in the winter. US-98 will take you through lots of nice towns and is a nice drive vs I-10.

We will be headed that way soon. We are visiting friends in the RGV and leaving here Tuesday headed for Daytona for Dec 15th. We will take US-98 and stop along the coast a few times.
