May be taking a trip to Mesa Arizona from the Toronto area in December.

Would it be bad idea to take the northern route via Chicago, Joplin, Amirillo I 40. Concerned about weather this time of year.

Have never driven west in winter only south.

We took that route in March last year and it snowed all the way from Nappanee, In to Amarillo. The condition of the roads were good. You may be limited in CG's though at this time of the year.

I guess I better take the southern route via Nashville, Memphis, Dallas. I dont wish to see one snow flake on this trip.

Thanks for the reply.

I would agree that going west via Chicago, etc is not the best solution during winter. However; there is no guarantee that you want encounter snow and possible sleet/freezing rain in the Nashville area. Keep informed on weather conditions. Could be nasty.

Things changed at work today which could mean postponing our trip to March. May only have two weeks off in December so I think if thats the case we will go straight south to Florida.

Providing no spring snow storms occur March may be a better time to go west anyways.
