Oregon Hwy 42

Can this route from 101 to I5 be recommended?

Recommended is a strong word for that route. Doable? Absolutely. And you are likely to have plenty of fellow RV'ers & big rigs depending upon when you travel. None of the routes I've taken from the Oregon Coast over the years are going to be drives where I won't be holding up traffic & looking for turnouts, but this is the route I usually take. I would stick to 42 & not us 42S from Bandon.

I may be making a similar run. Any thoughts on US 20?

Any new/updated thoughts on east bound out of Brandon? It sounds like one opinion is to take 101 north to 42 and avoid 42S. Honestly, I probably agree since my RV 760 GPS wants that route also. I've learned to trust my GPS unless research turns up something it might be missing.

BTW...this is a back up plan incase we have to abort a run from Fortuna CA to Redding CA via 299.

I did 42s a couple years ago in my 40' tag coach. I met a couple 10 wheel local trucks that made me pay close attention to where I was in my lane. I wouldn't take my 45 on it.

We traveled hwy 20 from Florence to Corvalis and it was a good road. That is if you are going that far north.

We took 42 last year. Traffic does seem to pile up behind us....no problem...just take your time and find a turnout. We did not take 42 South.

Hwy 38 from Reedsport to Hwy 5 is fairly gradual. We were recommended that route from a forum user who lives in the area. We took it from Hwy 5 to the coast. The change in elevation is only a few hundred feet as opposed to the passes most of the other routes have. It was February so we wanted to avoid any high passes.
