Oregon to Las Vegas suggestions

Sitting here watching it snow and planning a trip for late summer, early fall.

After a stop/visit to Junction City/Eugene we will want to head to Las Vegas. Looking for scenic routes that would take us thru some redwoods then over to Reno before we head down to Las Vegas. No desire to travel near the big cities in CA.

You might consider heading to the coast to Reedsport, OR and then down 101 to Eureka, CA and head east towards Redding, CA - Susanville, CA to Reno. You'd have the ocean views, redwoods and sierra mountains. I thank that a beautiful trip.

If you have the time: Straight down the 101 to Vallejo, then the 80 to the 5 to the 118 to the 210 to the 15. You miss San Fran and LA.

That does look like a good possibility with a variety of scenery. 299 from Eureka to Redding looks pretty snaky. Is that an OK road for RV travel?

Also look at goingneast from Eugene to Klamath Falls, Alturis, Reno and south on 395. Miss everything except Reno that way.

Also considered that since while in Bend last year, several folks said we should see Klamath Falls area. However, will this route take us thru any of the great redwood forests? DW really wants to see some impressive redwoods. We did see some of the Oregon coast while staying in Newport and then driving up to Lincoln City.

I have driven several times from Eureka to Redding on 299 with my 40 foot RV towing without problem. I'd think you would be OK. There is road maintenance on CA 299 so there will be some delays. Current Conditions

I would take 126 over to Florance, down 101 to the Redwoods in N. California. Then down 101 to hwy 20 and east over to I80 past Green Valley and Nevada City. I80 over to Reno and then south on 395. Down 395 is a little longer to Vegas, but if you've never been down the eastern Sierras, this will be the highlight of your trip. Anyway, south on 395 down to Hwy 58. East on 58 over to I15 to Vegas.

Hope this helps

Ron

I made this trip a few years ago but I began in Seattle. Fantastic scenery all the way.

That's a good route but I think his RV is over 40 feet and is "prohibited" on hwy 199 in CA.

Waking up an old post. I have a few questions on the route from Reno to Vegas using highway 95. I understand it to be a 2 lane rd. I am driving a 43' class A towing a car hauler at 21' for a total length of 64'. I have no issues driving this rig, many a miles behind the wheel. I am just not familiar with this route. I don't want to go down CA99 or I-5. We are starting in Sacramento.

Is the road conditions on 95 in good shape? I have read there are plenty of decent boondocking areas along this route. I am planning on taking 2 days to get to Vegas. Are the boondocking areas easily accessed with a class A? Are there any facilities along this route or should I be sure to get what i may need in Reno, fuel, ect? I realize this is the high desert, are there any major climbs or decents on 95?

It's a good highway with no significant ascents or descents. Tonopah is a little less than half way and does have fuel and other services available. However I would recommend staying on I-80 to Fernley, NV. There is a Loves and PFJ with cheaper fuel than Tonopah.

From there to Las Vegas is only about 420 miles via Hwy Alt 50 to Hwy 95 so you can easily make it on a full tank.

Never paid attention to boondocking along that route so I can't help you there.
