I used the route home tool said until brother in law started following us to Florida. We now use 81s to 64e into Richmond to 95s. Traffic is relatively lite, I now love this way. Either are well traveled by 18 wheelers that I don't mind, both good scenery.

If you're close to Philly, why not try the either of the two popular alternates that stay east -

1) From Wilmington DE, US 13 South all the way through the DelMarVa, the CBBT to Norfolk, then I64/US58 west to Emporia and then I95 the rest of the way south - misses 99% of the Philly-Balto-DC traffic. Very easy and flat.

2) From Wilmington, I-95 S to DE-896 to US 301 south, across BayBridge to Annapolis, then US 301 S paralleling I95 for about as far south as you want. There are a million crossovers between those two highways once you're south of Fort AP Hill in Virginia.

Agree with the 81-77-26-95 route. We have done several times. Many places to choose from for overnights.
