Pa Turnpike

I was looking at the tolls for a trip we are thinking of doing this summer. The PA Turnpike from Harrisburg to the OH line would cost us $99 ( rv $78 and 1 car $21) each way. Wow I haven't been on the Turnpike for a few years but that is more than double than my last time on it.

Been there, not done that.

When we left Denver PA, I pre-figured and I-80 added a few miles. But the extra $100 in my fuel tank was nice. Only about 45 minutes longer. Better road too!

We always route around tolls when in the RV. Tolls can just be horrible for the RV, trailer, truck and bike on the trailer. Some get you for EVERY axle they see even if its on a trailer and not on the road.

I don't think your calculations are correct. I took a trip this fall from my home in Louisville to Gettysburg which is right outside of Harrisburg. I have a 40 foot DP and toad. I paid nowhere near $99 each way. Maybe $60 total. It just wasn't that much. We drove in through Wheeling to Gettysburg on the turnpike.

No sense taking the tp when 80 is a much better road. Curves on the last 1/3 of the tp going west are torture, and the traffic around pittsburgh is nasty

Very little. Not worth even a calculation.
I-80 is great!

Welcome to the new society...
You are rich (you must be if you have an RV).
Therefore, You owe us - just because.

Tolls all over the place have gone up remarkably in recent years.

Sorry, you voted for it.

Matt

Hi Jeep,

I agree that the tolls are pricey and the road condition is less-than-stellar. However, when living in the lower portion of the state and travelling east-west or south, I still find the Turnpike pathway to be the most convenient.

$99 EACH WAY seemed to high to me so I checked the PA turnpike on-line toll calculator and came up with a different amount. One of us is probably wrong so you may want to re-check your toll schedule.

one way - RV with single rear axle and class 4 weight (up to 30,000lb.) with toad (4 axle total) - $46.40 from H-burg to Ohio border. $36.52 with EZ Pass.

one way -RV with dual rear axle and class 5 weight (up to 45,000lb.)with toad (5 axle total) - $65.20 from H-burg to Ohio border. $51.41 with EZ Pass.

Either way it's a good chunk of change, but not enough for me to drive an hour or more north to avoid the $36 toll.

cheers,
Joopy

Joopy..I agree...I live in York and can be on the TP in 30 minutes..to go north to I 80 is way out of my way and that hill outside State College...thats a killer..I will pay the toll and deal with it...
