Thanks for the update on Sky Ute Casino. Yesterday we went on Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, great trip. Really amazing views. Today moving up to The Last Resort RV park, south of Pagosa Springs. There is a festival in Pagosa Springs this weekend, picked the right time to visit. Then next week, on towards Durango. Have not decided where we are going to stay in or near Durango. Still open to suggestions on where to stay and what to see.

Thanks again.

Finishing up our stay at The Last Resort south of Pagosa Springs CO tonight. Tomorrow moving on to Durango. Decided on Alpen Rose RV Park, just north of Durango.

Yesterday got to see hot air balloons take off in downtown Pagosa Springs. A balloon fest, we got to see 24 balloons take off. Always enjoy that. Today took a ride and went over Wolf Creek Pass, east of Pagosa Springs. In the towed. That 8 mile climb would have been hard on the old MH.

Still looking for suggestions on anything to see/do in Durango. We did our scenic railroad in Chama, NM so will not be taking the Silverton RR trip. Thanks for the help.

Take some time to cruise downtown Durango. There are fun shops down there and if you like brew pubs try Lady Falconbergs or Steamworks. I don't know if it is still open this time of year, but look into the Bar D Chuckwagon. It's a nice western family entertainment and dinner (believe you need reservations). You can do Trimble Hot Springs on the north side of Durango for soaking in the hot tubs. Look into rafting the Animas River if you're into it. Just some suggestions. I grew up there and miss it.

Thanks for the suggestions. We are in Durango now, thru Saturday night. We are going to Mesa Verde today, hope to take the ranger led tour of Balcony House. Saturday, we are going to Silverton, then on to Million Dollar Highway, to Ouray. The road between Silverton and Ouray is under construction, and closed weekdays from 8 to noon, and 1 to 5. But no construction on weekends. Tonight might make a brewpub.

Have not seen any snow on any mountaintop, or anywhere else. I wanted to see snow too. They temporarily stopped construction on the million dollar highway so tomorrow we will make that loop. That will be our last best chance to see snow. Heading back south Sunday.

No snow at 12k+ feet yesterday on the Red Mountain trail. The road was closed 8 - noon and 1 to 5.
No snow in Silverton or Mountain there.

So no snow for this flatlander Texan. If I read the signs right today, the million dollar highway between Silverton and Ouray will be open tomorrow. No construction where the road was only open one hour from noon to 1pm.

I found and played Wolf Creek Pass by CW McCall for wife. She had never heard of the song, or the singer, or the pass. That lady has lead a sheltered life.

Thanks for reminding me that I have "The Best of C.W. McCall" on CD. I should put it in my RV. I think the first time I ever heard his music (and it was this song, I think) was on the Johnny Carson show.

C.W. McCall was Mayor of Ouray from '86 to '92.

We were just on The Million Dollar Highway about 6 weeks ago. See recent Rain steaming off the Rocks below.

Here's the skinny on Highway closures...

Roadside signs did say the road was open yesterday Friday, but we went to Mesa Verde all day. Today is our trip to Silverton and Ouray. Looking forward to it. And thanks for the link to Colorado road conditions.

Travel day today. Yesterday saw Silverton and Ouray and the aspens were beautiful. But this is the end of our Colorado adventure. We start back to Texas today. Mixed feelings, will be good to be back home but will really miss the mountains and cool weather. Today 4 easy hours to Albuquerque. Couple of days, then to Lubbock, Texas. Visiting friends in Lubbock. Then home. Thanks again for all the great suggestions for Pagosa Springs and Durango.
