44 is also an option -- longer in miles, but perhaps not in time. I'm hearing both of these routes are bumper to bumper. 3-5 hours to travel that hour or so on I-5. So be careful about thanking.

Yesterday I found an incident forecast which predicted I-5 would be closed at least into this afternoon; I can't find such a forecast today. The incident report is saying the fire is active on the east (I-5) side, however.

Cheers
Mike

Well, update on i5, closed thru SUNDAY! And with your caution, I'm hearing words like 8 hour bumper to bumper! Other options?

Helicopter airlift. Seriously, I don't know what else you can do, you are so close (Grant's Pass?). You could angle over to 101, but I wouldn't do it until after SF. 5 -> 80 -> 37 -> 101?

Good luck!
Mike

Home, did the 299/89 route. Was a pokey 5 hour detour, bumper to bumper with semi's crawling up the grades. But I hit it about noon if you went early morning or later at night I'm sure it would be a lot faster. If you're rested and in no hurry it wouldn't be that bad, but if you are tired and just want to get home it's pretty annoying!

We just did the 395 (from Reno) to 89... so early am is good, only some slowing.

That fire has really become a monster. It merged with the other fire close to the east, and even more of I-5 is closed. No containment at all now.

Be safe
Mike

That particular area is really beautiful and we always look forward to going through it when we travel north of us.

It will be interesting to see how long it takes to recover as Mother Nature steps in.
