As for US 222, DO NOT pick it up in Allentown area, traffic can be very bad until you reach Reading. I suggest you follow I-78 west to Hamburg (Cabela's is on the hill to your right), Pa. 61 south (mostly four lanes but some red lights) for about 10 miles where you will see US 222 (right exit)which is four lane to Lancaster, then US 30 to York and I-83. Watch the signs in Reading area (just past Penn State campus exit) for US 222 to exit ramp to the right. In Lancaster area when you exit from US 222 onto US 30 west, pay attention to the signs as US 30 exit ramps to right in a short distance. From here to York, no problems.

Hope this helps.
That looks like a plan. Thanks again, I'm going to give it a try.

We ended up getting on the turnpike just before Scranton. About $10 in tolls for the 40' MH and toad but almost no traffic and clear sailing until just before Clarks Summit where they are working on the bridge. The traffic was so light that it didn't matter much. Compared to the teeth jarring ride through the construction in Scranton on the way south it was a joy and we missed out on the steep grade on the way out of Scranton heading north.

Unless we hear reports that the construction mess is done next fall, we will take it again. Thanks all.

Glad to hear that it worked out for you. Looks like 2 years & they're still working on that bridge. I don't ever remember them being completely done with 81 through Scranton & I have traveled that road from time to time for the last 30 years.

I just came north through that area about three weeks ago. I found both 33 and 209 to be fine, comfortable rides (40 ft DS w/toad). In fact, 33 and 209 were just about the only fine roads we found all the way through the Commonwealth of PA. My intent was to find an alternate to I-78 and I-84 (both in bad shape) and it worked, more or less. Once we got into NY I-84 was very good, until CT.
