Sooo many campgrounds up 87, depends where you want to stop, there is a KOA with 160 pull thrus just south of Montreal just off hwy 15, and there are several WM lots in the city that allow parking, but the most enjoyable way to see Montreal for me is through my rear view mirror. Others might have a different viewpoint.

Many great places along Lake Champain or Lake George just off 87.

Talking Philly to Montreal

I would hope you would take time to get off the highway and see what NY has to offer before you cross the border. You're going to travel thru an area of the country rich in history. Coming north from NY you'll travel past West Point Military Academy and Hyde Park, summer home of the Roosevelt's. The Saratoga Battlefield in Schuylerville is a great place to visit. Saratoga Springs has the racetrack in August along with great mineral springs. Continuing north is Lake George, one of the nicest lakes in our Adirondack Park. There's beautiful camping throughout the park / too numerous to mention. Coming north along Lake Champlain leads to Fort Ticonderoga in Ticonderoga, NY.
Check out the iloveny.com website and you'll see there's lots to do.

1. Orange County Chopper
2. Howe Caverns
3. Ausable Chasm
4. Lake Champlain

On way back, take I-88 to go to Cooperstown and the Baseball Hall of Fame. Then take 81 to the PA TPK NE Extension to the Blue Route.
