Traveling from Portland to Yellowstone. Considering Hwy2 at Spokane to I-15, to I90? Or maybe just I-90?

What kind of driving thru the mountains will we get? And what do we visit during this part of the trip?

1993 Gulfstream DP, 5.9 Cummins, 4sp Allison, toad is 1985 Nissan PU. Can walk a few hundred feet on level ground.

thanks for the help.........ronspradley

We live in Bend, Oregon and travel to Yellowstone yearly.

first of all a great book to have for reference is
Mountain Directory West.....its a travel reference book and will give you great information about passes, mountain ranges etc....we use it when plotting out our route.

Question is why you would travel via Spokanne to head to Yellowstone?

The best route to consider would be I-84 east to I-86 around Pocatello Idaho and head into Yellowstone that way. That would put you thru Idaho Falls and Rexberg and lead you into West Yellowstone....

Interstate 90 would take you from Spokanne to Missoula and then down to
Bozeman, Livingston MT putting you into the park thru the north entrance.

If you get the Mountain Directory West travel book will likely assist you with your mountain pass questions. We have been all over that area and I do not recall having any travel issues with any of the passes.

Hope this information helps. Its a stunning area of the country.

Is the only purpose of your route to get to Yellowstone or will you be in that area to start with?

Was there a reason you wanted to route yourself thru Spokanne?

We travel From Portland east I-84 into Idaho to I-86 to Idaho Fall, switch over to Hwy 26 to Jackon-Hole, Wy. then into into South Yellowstone Park driving pass the Grand Telon. Campgrounds and Rv parks inside Park and outside.

We wanted to go thru Spokane to route up to Glacier NP., then down to north entrance to Yellowstone. Stay in Gardiner Montana at Rocky Mountain RV Park as base and drive toad into Yellowstone. ronspradley
