Portland to SF - US 101 in a 42ft MH with toad?

We have been up and down the interstate many times in the winter, getting a bit bored with it.

Assuming the weather cooperates, wondering if there are parts of US 101 that are suitable for travelling in a big coach with a Flex on the bumper. For a change we won't be in a hurry and wouldn't mind doddling and seeing something new.

With you saying you won't be in a hurry, you'll be fine. Don't plan on long mileage days as it can be slow going at times. The good news is you shouldn't need reservations this time of the year.

you won't have a problem the road is traveled by rv's and trucks all day and night. going south you will have many turn-outs to enjoy.
just watch your speed in the small cities as they like the revenue ,california is as bad as oregon

Depending in your height, you may have to get creative in a few areas with bridges or tunnels.

I've been told our 13' high coach should not be taken through the tunnel North of Florence, Oregon. But looking at the signage at the bridge, it looks like it would fit.

Here's a link to some low clearance bridges nationwide:

That tunnel is tall and the road is used by big rigs and semis. You'll fit.

That is encouraging. I don't think we make 12 feet. I'd like to see more of Oregon this year. I think we will give it a go.

One other question - is it worth leaving Portland to the north by 26 and coming south from Cannon Beach, should I just head south west on 99W and 18 connecting with 101 around Neotsu?

No problems on 101 in Wa or Or, we've done it several times. In CA, MH over 40' are restricted on some roads:

Bill - that is a good link. Now, still wondering if I miss much by going south-west instead of north-west heading out of Portland to join US 101 south to SF?
