Prince Rupert to Port Hardy

Is it possible to transport 38' rig from Rupert to Port Hardy? I am unable to figure out it this route is possible on bcferries website, and if so what the fee would be. I am considering a drive up through BC interior and return down coast.

Yes, it is possible. You can telephone BCFerries 1-888-223-3779 for schedule and fees. All sizes and descriptions of vehicles are routinely transported on the BCFerries.

Thanks for confirming! I looked at the fares again (PDF download) more closely and do see the route now "port hardy - central coast - prince rupert". For 38' it will be almost exactly $1000 and then each passenger is additional $175 (Canadian dollars). In summer the schedule is every other day.

We did this track from Port Hardy to Rupert a couple years ago with our 40' dutchstar and CRV. We had a clear, smooth sail and it was certainly worth the price of admission.
Because it's a 12 hour ride, we also took a cabin and reserved two front row seats in the lounge. Wouldn't want to do this on a regular basis but absolutely no regrets.

I see the price for the cabin is just another $110 so will plan on doing that too, if I can make this trip happen. How is the view from the ferry? This is incredibly scenic route I am very familiar with it have done the reverse over course of a week via jet ski and spent time in Sheerwater/Bella Bella, Klemtu, and Hartley Bay. Hoping rest of my family can at least take in scenery and wildlife along the way.
Also looking at Victoria to Port Angeles to get back to mainland, did you take that route or go through Vancouver? Website says RVs can be accommodated.

If you are lucky as we were to get a clear calm day, it is a beautiful trip. We went to Victoria from Vancouver so I can't comment on the Washington ferry.

One thing to plan for is your propane will be shut off when you get in line to board and will stay off until you unload, so if you have a r/v fridge you should eat all your ice cream before you get there. You'll find the views to be outstanding.

When we went we were sitting in the bar which had a huge picture window we sailed by a bay that you could see a glacier at the end, the gal sitting in the booth behind us said oh how lovely honey how high are we?

We did both Black ball and Washington state ferry last year pulling a trailer at 49’. The Wa. Ferry was much cheaper out of Sidney. The magic number is 50’ overall and the price really jumps up

The Wash State ferry will take you through the San Juan Islands and is much more scenic than the Black Ball ferry.

Maybe she wasn’t referring to altitude? [emoji849]

Propane off on all ferries

X2 on what 2002guy said about turning off your propane on the ferry. Not a big deal on the local WA ferry trips but on the longer AK ferry trips it is an issue. Regards, Mike
