Smile Puerto Penasco Visit

Any folks familiar with traveling from Sonoyta to Puerto Penasco (road conditions, safety, caravan options, etc.) and with RV parking options once there? Thanks, much.

If you do a little surfing you can find information from tour companies ...

One Example

Winnebago Travel also has two caravans that go there ...

We call our rig "Ernie the Journey"

Well WIT has caravans that come down during the winter. I don't know the exact times but there will be one bunch that stays for a couple of weeks and then another bunch show up.

The trip from Lukeville is very simple and the road is good. I have driven it in caravans and also alone and have only had one problem that wasn't anything serious, just a Laurel and Hardy type thing.

We were going through Sonoyta and the road was blocked for construction. Only alternative was to turn left up into a housing area. Our caravan of 7 went 3 different ways, got a little lost but the locals actually guided us out of the tract, around the construction and back out onto the main road.

Places to stay are Playa Bonita, where we stay. Then there is the Reef which is way out of town. Rumor has it that it isn't going to be open in '15 but another rumor says only half of it will be open. The dry camp area by the Reef is closed. There is Playa de Oro. We have stayed there but it is pretty tight and the beach isn't very nice. There is a dry camp area near Playa Bonita but I don't remember the name. It is on the sand but they have a dump, water, and showers.
