Rapid City to Billings, Mt
Has anyone traveled Hwy 212 between these 2 towns? I understand it will cut off about 50 miles on the trip. But I'm wondering about the road and the terrain

We did it last year, don't do it. Road is fine, 2 lane all the way. BUT, the road goes up & down, up & down, up & down, yes, it's shorter but we had to use our extra 5 gal of diesel we always carry to make it to Billings. It's also very isolated, no towns, few vehicles, IF there were a breakdown don't know if you would even have cel service. Trust me, stay on I 90.

Thanks, I've driven part of it-----from the Crow Agency to the Casino and remember remarking that I was glad I wasn't driving my M/H. I'll take your advice and drive the extra 40 miles

Yea, was hoping you would say that. I had wanted to go that way for several years and was sorely disappointed, but we did it and now don't have to wonder what it's like! Happy traveling.

We took 90 and pulled into Billings about 1530 today. It was a good trip except for the rain.

We planned to take 212 today, leaving out of Billings to Cody. We had heard that it was a beautiful route. May have to rethink this. Thanks.

Don't rethink it...just do it!
We've driven US-212 from Crow Agency to Belle Fourche and back again without a problem...32' fifth wheel pulled by a Dodge 1-ton w/dullies & diesel engine. I would do it again in a heartbeat!

We've taken that route both pulling a travel trailer and in our current rig with no problems at all. Yes, it is open country but that is what it is out there. No problems with hills and the road conditions were good.

I rethunk it and decided to give it a try. What a beautiful drive. Wish they would have made the pullouts a little larger, would have liked to stop at more of them. Think we will make a day trip with the toad and and take more pictures.
